How to Remove a Bathtub Faucet Valve

Over time, a bathtub faucet will develop leaks. In order to fix the leaks, you need to remove the faucet's valve. Some bathtubs feature one handle while others have hot and cold water handles. If your bathtub has two handles, feel the temperature of the water dripping to tell which valve you need to remove. 1 Turn off all the water in the house. You need to find and turn the water shutoff valve, then drain the system by turning on a faucet until no water comes out.

2 Remove the cap in the middle of the faucet handle. You may have to use a flat-head screwdriver or a wrench to remove the cap.

3 Remove the screw in the middle of the handle with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle to expose the valve underneath.

4 Loosen the valve stem with a wrench, turning it counterclockwise. Once the valve is loose enough, loosen it the rest of the way using your hands until the valve comes completely out of the wall.
